Song

Some of us have oceans All of us have sky Some of us go swimming All of us go by Some of us are learning All of us forget Some of us are wealthy All of us have debt Some of us have houses All of us have walls Some of us have seasons All of us have falls Some of us go

O Winged Thing

O winged thing, flight evolved four separate times on earth. Do we find in you the fifth? O winged thing, you move through the streets and squares of the city. O winged thing, do you come hunting, to silently seize and bear away? O winged thing, do you come to shelter, to hide us behind your outspread wings? O winged thing, I would not be taken and might welcome shelter. O winged thing, do you have a voice? O winged thing, should you pass by swiftly I will say that the sudden wind we felt was the breath of your passage.

The Zebra Goes to a Party

The zebra put on lipstick but the zebra's taste was poor. The lipstick was an orange shade no one should ever wear. The zebra had no mirror and it did the best it could. But the best with orange lipstick is never very good. The zebra had a lion friend, though some thought this unwise. The lion saw the lipstick and had to roll her eyes. The party they were going to was fancy, it was chic. And no one that the zebra kissed would turn the other cheek. All thought the lipstick awful but were too polite to say. They never told the zebra and she danced the night away.

Then and now

Elevators may stop between floors - Shout aloud for help until the doors Can be pulled open by the friend who hears. A voice and friends is what we need and all we have. Peace may come, may end certain wars. Elevators will still stop between floors.

Maker

How do you move within the stone? And who has said that this is stone? No one but I may say - no one. And will they listen, every one? No need for all, if some few will. May I be one among the few? Oh I will leave that up to you. Veiled, unveiled, uncertain, sure, Each day I choose - may it be well - Stone - or story still to tell.

My Blue Child

I let you go now, my blue child. Fly away, I make you wings of memory and pain. The wings that offered healing once would not come again. Your pain is now complete, your pain is past. Our pain is torn and tearing, our pain will last. I played a counting game upon your back when we were small. Then I had your wounds to count. I could not count them all. A prince come from a star, with golden hair; I took you to my heart, I held you there. You were my own, and every threat to you made me fierce. Now I must be, yet cannot be, fierce enough for this - to let you go now, my blue child

Dust to Dust Blues

Remember you are dust, and to dust you will return Remember you are dust, and to dust you will return The sign is in the ashes when the palm branches burn The virus is spreading, going further every day The virus is spreading, going further every day Get a hazmat suit on, it could be coming your way I hear beeping from the street, something's out there backing up I hear beeping from the street, something's out there backing up If they're delivering the news, I've already had enough You see that high window with the light shining through? You see that high window with the light shining through? If you stay very still, you can hear music too

Here we are

It's not going well on this planet and if our ship had not been so badly damaged when we crash-landed here, I would take you home right now. Our engineer didn't survive and it's a shame though we know even she couldn't get us into space again. We still visit the site and see the outlines of the ship through everything growing up around it. That hull will last ten thousand years. We pass for natives of the planet and get along with them reasonably well. We have each other and we tell each other that is enough and we mean what we say. But I would take you home if I could.
