I had no time for the blues,
but they had time for me.
They came to my house
about a quarter to three.

I had to get out of bed
when they knocked on the door.
But why had they come?
They would not tell me what for.

I was awake with the blues
for the rest of the night.
And oh, I saw the blues
by the dawn's early light.

It was a quarter to nine,
I had things I should do.
But I couldn't go out,
I was feeling so blue.

And so I said to the blues,
you must have somewhere to go.
They glanced at the time
and they answered me no.

I had no time for the blues
but the blues didn't care.
All the time in the world
is what the blues have to spare.
For :iconfredfree:, who gave me the title.

(The second couplet of the third stanza alludes to the beginning of the U.S. national anthem, "Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light...")

i laid back reclined
No time for the blues
all my emotions declined
no time for the blues
my future resigned
no time for the blues

i was seeing Red
no time for the blues
it was all in my head
no time for the blues

oh say ca you see
the blues in me
oh say can you see
the light for me.

lad back reclined
it's time for the blues

"They glanced at the time
and they answered me no." Great sense of humor Bro. It can keep you alive when nothing else works. A keeper.

yeah, i really like this; puts me in the mind of stevie ray vaughan (for want of a bluer reference). simple rhyme is often the way to go, i find =)

thanks very much. i like SRV a lot myself. and i've come more and more to the value of straightforward rhyme lately. it just needs a little twist (like quoting the national anthem) when you do the obvious ones like "night" and "light."

that IS definitely sad, no wondering here.
with a zest of humor, but a dark one.

i still love it, of course, feels like something i would say, if i only knew how :)
my fave lines
They glanced at the time
and they answered me no.

for the absurdity of it!

thanks, dear! yes, this one did not make it from sadness to hope, the only help was the humor.

that's a really nice comment, that it feels like something you would say if you knew how, i think that's one of the things a poet is for (not the only one, but definitely one) -

and thanks about those lines, i admit i made myself smile too - the blues looking at the clock or watch :D

i'll be in and out today - have to run into town right now, i'll be back, talk to you more later

Thanks very much.

Sort of like the force in Star Wars - the blues surround us and penetrate us... partially control our actions, and also obey our commands... :iconobiwanplz:

Nice work, as always!
The blues, they sound like an unwelcome guest indeed; one of those that drinks all your coffee, dirties every towel in the house, traumatises the pets, and just... won't... leave.

:D You got it - a stanza I didn't finish had the blues scaring the cat, and I pictured them at the table drinking cup after cup of coffee. And thanks! :iconbowplz:
