Ghost Blues

Did you ever feel like a ghost,
haunting your own life?
Tell me how did you go
from a song to a sigh?

Should you pick up a hammer
and start breaking things down?
Would you feel more alive
as the shards hit the ground?

Is there something you neglected,
some deal you didn’t make?
Or was there some prescription
you forgot to fill and take?

Should you pick up a hammer
and start smashing things up?
But how would you know
when enough was enough?

Should you open yourself
to something old or something new?
Are there poets or preachers
who could tell you what’s true?

Have you felt like a ghost?
I have felt that way too.
But I hope and I hope
for something more than these blues.
